A brief debrief of playtesting at PAX Unplugged 2019

People playing a Flying Geese prototype at a table.

It was lovely to bring Flying Geese to playtest at PAX Unplugged through Unpub. I am grateful to all the people who took the time to test the game, or stopped for a minute to learn about it. It was really interesting to get fresh perspectives on the different rules/constraints I’ve been tinkering with, and to see how people process the spatial puzzle.

The version tested includes, among other features:

  • 90-card single-sided block deck of flying geese designs
  • Flying geese tile
  • Center guild card: wild geese, +1 reserve block to sew
  • Win condition: face-up guild cards

All feedback is interesting feedback; the art part of it is turning all that into an improved game design. Ultimately: more thought, more work, more testing :).

And also: I should play Set, because apparently it’s similar…sort of.
